I hope everyone had a marvelous 4th of July! I know we did!!!
This year Steve and I decided to trade in the beach, alcohol and laziness for a hot, early, 10k! The Peachtree Road Race is the largest 10k in the world, and let me tell you it is a blast! Peachtree is lined with people of all different types cheering you on and handing out water, juices, or beer if you had rather chug that. It was so much fun to see 55,000 plus people come together to celebrate our country. My goal was to run the 6.2 miles in under an hour. Sadly that didn't happen. I have been having some knee trouble for the past few weeks and when I reached mile 2 the pain settled in in full force. It was horrible my knee went numb for a few seconds and I could barely put any weight on that leg. Thankfully Piedmont hospital was right to the right of me, but luckily I was able to just walk it off. I walked for a few minutes and then took off running again. I was able to finish in 1 hour and 5 minutes, which is not to shabby.
The only bad thing about running in my first race is that now I am addicted. I am already looking for new races. I really want to run a half marathon, 13.1 miles, so now I am looking. There are a few in in Atlanta, but one is on Thanksgiving and hopefully I will be in Tuscaloosa cheering the Auburn Tigers to a victory against Alabama!!!! I am attempting to talk Allyson into running one with me in Nashville, so if you talk to her tell her it is a good idea!
Steve also ran the race and did great! He hates running and only signed up because I really wanted to. He is so sweet :) He had a good time though. He finished in 1 hour and about 20 minutes. For someone who never runs I though that was awesome! Way to go babe!!
